Guinea-Bissau in Crisis: Military Arrests President Amid Election Chaos
In late November 2025, Guinea-Bissau held elections, but both the current president, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and his main opponent claimed they had won, while the official results were not yet announced. Three days later, the military took control of the country, arrested the president and several top officials, stopped the election process, and imposed curfews and border closures. The military said they acted because of a plot to manipulate the election, but the takeover has left the country uncertain and unstable, continuing Guinea-Bissau’s history of political crises.03/12/2025
