Putin's Nuclear Torpedo Boast

In a recent address, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the successful testing of the Poseidon nuclear-propelled torpedo, a weapon designed to unleash devastating radioactive tsunamis on coastal cities. Described as a "huge success," Putin highlighted that the test involved launching the device from a submarine and activating its nuclear power unit, claiming its capabilities surpass even Russia's Sarmat intercontinental missile. The Poseidon, functioning as an underwater drone, can loiter before detonating a nuclear warhead, potentially rendering targeted areas uninhabitable.

This announcement comes amid escalating tensions in the Ukraine war, where Ukrainian forces are under severe pressure from Russian advances near Pokrovsk. Reports indicate Russian troops have disrupted key logistics routes, pushing the situation to a critical point. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called the Pokrovsk front "the most difficult," while also condemning a Russian strike on a children's hospital in southern Ukraine that injured nine, including four children.

Other developments include a deadly explosion at a Russian military factory producing explosives, killing 23, and the detention of a former Ukrainian energy official on embezzlement charges. In Russia, an anti-war activist faces prolonged jail time through repeated minor convictions. While no immediate international reactions to the Poseidon test were noted, these events underscore the ongoing volatility in the conflict.
