News24’s Blunders: Clicks Over Accuracy

News24 often messes up, especially on complicated stories about health, law, or politics. Their mistakes usually come from sensational or misleading headlines, leaving out important context, or not bothering to properly fact-check.

Examples:

In 2025, they published a piece about Akkerland Boerdery saying the farm was sold privately, ignoring the fact it had been expropriated. The Press Council slapped them with a ruling and made them correct it.

More recently (2025), News24 issued a formal correction and apology to AfriForum after falsely implying that the group claimed “anti‑white genocide” was being pushed by another organisation (a claim AfriForum had not made).

The pattern: Rushing to publish, relying on a single source or social media, and tackling complex topics without understanding them. They fix mistakes when forced to, but it’s clear they sometimes care more about clicks than accuracy.
