Johann Rupert’s Remgro to Take Full Control of Mediclinic Southern Africa

Johann Rupert, chairman of the investment company Remgro, which has interests across banking, insurance, mining, and transport (including South Africa’s largest taxi operations) is set to assume full ownership of Mediclinic’s hospitals in South Africa and the Southern African region. As part of the restructuring, MSC’s subsidiary IHL will take full control of Mediclinic’s Swiss operations. The move is said to be designed to streamline ownership and allow each party to focus on its respective markets. The proposal is still subject to final approvals before it can become official.
